Do wolves sweat through their paws? Or their tongue?

Post by Hiedidog » Sat Jan 24, 2009 5:03 pm

I've read in many different books that wolves sweat through their tongues. And in other books, that they sweat through their pads. I've tried looking up the answers but they varied.

Wolves get rid of excess heat through panting and sweating. People and wolves pant with their tongue...but wolves sweat (like dogs) through their paws. Wolves don`t sweat through their tongue, but their still trying to get cool. Diffrent means, same motive.

I think canines are also supposed to have a special type of skin that enables heat to escape when they sweat and pant. Something along that line.

I don't know about paws, but they can't sweat in their fur. That's why they pant.

I know that the wolf`s coat in winter is so insulating to the animal, that frost and snow on the backs of wolves doesn`t melt. I think the summer molt helps in the process of making the wolves cool...
