WolfQuest Mini-newsletter, Aug 2010

Post by WQ Coordinator » Fri Sep 03, 2010 10:33 am

Oops, forgot to post this! It's all old news to most forum-goers, but it's nice to have all newsletters posted here regardless!

WolfQuest 2.5 Contest Results!
While many of you may have been keeping up with the latest information about the WolfQuest Design Contest on the forum, here are the final results.

After more than 900 contest entries were received and well over 500 people voted in the polls, the Grand Prize winner has been decided! Exiah will be flown out to Minnesota to meet with the WolfQuest Development Team, including top wolf experts David Mech and Dan MacNulty, to help decide how to implement her idea for Weather and Time into the game. Cama submitted the winning idea from the Game Enhancements category of the contest: the ability to sit and lie down by the push of a button, regaining stamina much quicker than just standing and waiting. These ideas will both be put into Episode 2.5, which we'll start working on after our WolfQuest Development Team meeting with Exiah.

Along with the winning contest submissions, we also had fifteen other finalists who submitted excellent ideas for Episode 2.5. If funding remains after the two winning ideas are implemented into the game, we may try to also include some of the simpler ideas into 2.5. Congratulations to all the finalists!

Big Ideas
  • Bison- Kivia
    Cougars- Frodo1
Multiplayer Should Be More Like Single Player- ara-tun
    Pup or Full Grown- NorthernBound
Game Enhancements
  • Calves and Cubs- ara-tun
    Pups/Dens- breannakristine
    Brave Bear- Mistystar96
    Chatbox Removed!- Asheek
    Deleting games- Darkfurbp
    Elk Fatigue- Firehero
    Food Conversion- Hermione Granger
    Goals/Achievements- wolf567
    Sneaky Wolves- wookie99
    Stalking Adjustment- chickiefoo
Take Control of Your Chat- Aurora9599
For full idea descriptions, please visit the contest poll pages for the Big Ideas and Game Enhancements runoff poll on the WolfQuest Community Forums.

Please note: there is no estimated release date for the game at this point. We have a long way to go to implement the winning ideas, and we'll need to complete the game design for these new features before we can make any release date estimates.

Next Newsletter Preview
Because this has been just a mini-newsletter, here's a taste of what you might find in the next full newsletter, expected to be sent out in October or November:
  • An update about Episode 2.5 and some details about the WolfQuest Development Team meeting with Exiah.
  • The long-awaited availability of the new WolfQuest t-shirt.
  • The Wild Wolf EdVenture: an opportunity to look for and meet real wolves in a trip to the Minnesota Zoo and International Wolf Center.
Thanks for the avatar, Silverness!

Got this in my email on august 30, but figured that since there wasn't any new news, that it wasn't going to be posted here.

Anyways, Thanks for posting this! I look forward to the next full newsletter!

I still am having issues with receiving my newsletter. Hasn't been showing up in my inbox. (and I have the appropriate thing checked)
Aside from that....

Thanks for posting this Cana! Even though it is a bit late, that's perfectly fine. Things happen, people get busy and sometimes forget. ^^ No biggy.
At that, I look forward to hearing the next newsletter!

Cool beans; a trip to Minnesota Zoo! Sounds... educational! I have never seen wolves in a zoo let alone in an educational setting. Can't wait to hear more in the bigger upcoming newsletter!
