WolfQuest 2.7 Beta Screenshots: Then to now comparisons

Post by Masika » Tue Nov 10, 2015 9:16 pm

You've all seen plenty of screenshots, whether those be bloopers or general screenshots, but we have not really showed you screenshots which showcase comparisons between 2.5 and 2.7. WolfQuest 2.7 has greatly improved graphics and since some of you have been asking about the differences in quality, we have decided to share some screenshot comparisons with you! The first screenshot in each comparison is from 2.5, whereas the second is from 2.7.

Many thanks to Dave with giving the okay to share some comparisons with you all and to our wonderful beta testers who have taken their time to contribute to the comparison gallery! Remember that screenshots from 2.7 may not reflect the final version as they are from the beta. To view larger images, just right-click and open in another tab, or drag the screenshot into a new tab. Be aware that option differs per browser. Enjoy!

Wow, honestly stunning! The difference that just a change in texture can make is incredible (can I just say the snow texture looks great in 2.7?), and the shadows add a nice amount of depth! And I don't know if it's just in these shots but the edges of the map look smoother too, don't know how to explain it. But it looks more like they roll off into the distance instead of just cutting off.
And ofc the furry texture and new coats on the wolves are also amazing. I'm so excited for those aaahh.

O: Do I spot bump mapping? What kind of fancy light stuff did you guys do? Like, a whole description maybe? (So like tesselation, displacement.. ect.. all that fancy jazz.)

The terrains have normal and displacement mapping, plus some perlin and other effects to break up tiling patterns. Check out Relief Terrain Pack for Unity for details (though we're using a fairly limited portion of its features).

Goodness! The texture and detail looks so much more realistic now! I just got my boyfriend into thinking about purchasing 2.7 and he is in love with all the hard work you guys have put in over the years

Super excited to see this released to the public!! C:

Oooh! This is all so cool to read! Could you do a list of like, the changes you made? So like how the wolf model is viewed... Ect ect. Sorry if this is a weird request? xD The technical words for it if that makes sense? Something about reading stuff like that is just so satisfying, you know?

Aaaaah, these look all so beautiful! <333
However, if these are the Beta screenshots still, I assume it might look even better after the game is finished and released? Well, it doesn't exactly have to look even better than that, it's just a hunch. xD
But overall they look amazing and I am so excited to explore the WolfQuest world now myself!

What a difference! The graphics in WQ 2.7 are absolutely stunning! Great job to everyone who contributed to the production of the new version. I especially like the way detail was added to the snow.

Wow, it looks amazing! You all have outdone yourselves! It's wonderful to see familiarities on the map upgraded to such beautiful scenery. I especially like the rocks added to the hill in the last screenshot. We will all have fun trying to jump into them.
