All it says is that the wolves were within view from his house-- not sure how 'near' that would be-- it doesn't look like the they were actually trying to do anything, they could've simply been passing through. Seems to me that the guy did more "molesting" to the wolves he killed than the wolves to ...

They still have all of the behaviors found with wolves-just the change in who receives the behavior (from the hand raised wolf to human rather than hand raised wolf to another wolf in it's pack).
