Re: General Bird of Prey Discussion

Ospreys are my favorite birds of prey. I grew up in a town along the North Platte River, and I would see them every year during the summer. There are pairs that would return to the same nesting platform and raise offspring every year. I was able to observe some behaviors like bringing nesting materi...

Re: Would a coyote eat a dead wolf?

Coyotes are very opportunistic, so I'd assume one might scavenge a wolf if it was hungry enough and had few alternatives. My guess is that it would be more likely if the coyote's normal food sources were scarce. Remember that wolves will rarely eat coyotes when moose and elk are plentiful - it doesn...

Re: The importance of Hunting

Besides, even wolves mass-murder and wipe out whole groups of animals with no reason, shouldn't it be okay for us to wipe out a few animals for a good reason? This is an older post, but I came across it and wanted to clarify something. I'd be careful with using the term "murder" when referring to a...

Intraspecific Aggression/Territorial Behavior in Bobcats

I am working on a story (outside of Wolfquest) about bobcats which is set in Virginia. I want the animal behavior depicted in my story to be fairly accurate with what happens in the wild. So I am looking for some good sources you could direct me towards to research bobcat behavior. Specifically, I h...

Re: Lynx face off in an intense battle of vocalizations

I have heard that lynx only "battle" each other with their vocalizations, as opposed to bobcats or cougars which sometimes get into physical fights. Not sure if that is true or not. Most of what I've read about Canadian Lynx states that they are less aggressive and more reclusive than bobcats.

The Unique Siberian Silver Fox

A fairly recent article published in the peer-reviewed journal Science spotlights the Siberian silver fox - and just what makes these foxes so friendly. These foxes have some genetic differences that are linked to "tame" behavior around humans. The study may hold some clues in studying the genetics ...

Re: WolfQuest, Graphics Cards, and You

My graphics card is Radeon HD 8450 G. I have had this laptop for 5 years and it has some screen damage but it's the only computer I have. I don't mind playing on a lower setting, I just want to be able to play the game at a reasonable framerate. What's the recommended range of graphics cards to pla...

[3.0] Hunting: General Discussion

For those of you that have started playing the Anniversary Edition of Wolfquest, what kinds of prey have you encountered? It's a very different set of challenges and dynamics from the previous version, like playing a completely different game. For me, it's tough to concentrate on just one elk to tar...

Re: Early Access Release Date

I restarted Steam on my computer, and then found WolfQuest: Anniversary Edition, but it says "Coming Soon - this item is not yet available" even though I have purchased 2.7 on the same account. Is the release delayed?

Re: Early Access Release Date

Four hours and fifteen minutes to go! I bought the game for 2.7 on Steam, so I'll go there. Hopefully my older computer can handle the graphics for 3.0, if not at least I won't be losing money since I've bought the previous version already.

Re: Nonfiction Wolf Book Discussion

I'd say that my favorite nonfiction wolf book is probably Wolves in the Land of Salmon by David Moskowitz, which is about the wolves living along the Pacific Northwest coast. It has some good information on the natural history of these wolves, and I liked the photographs of the coastal wolves and th...

A Wolf Called Wander

This thread is a place to discuss the book A Wolf Called Wander by Rosanne Perry, which released recently in May 2019. The writing is around a middle-grade reading level, is told in first-person, and follows the adventures of a yearling-age wolf, Swift, who manages to survive on his own after a riva...

Re: What types of genes would you like for your pack in wolfquest 3?

I like the combination of playing a black wolf with a mate who has a light grey coat (mostly white with some black and grey mixed in).
