A wolf territory is saturated in the pack's scent. You know how you get used to a smell after a while and stop noticing it? This means while an intrider will imediately catch the pack's scent because <i>everything</i> is laced with the pack's scent, the pack will notice a new scent immediately too, ...

All the coat colours are a genetic mutation, but the melanistic (black) gene was a mutation that occurred in dogs and was spread back into the wolf populations. When you ask if it's a genetic mutation, a genetic mutation is when a gene changes randomly, maybe some information is lost or just changed...

Game refers to an animal you hunt for sport (and sometimes food if they're edible) normally. (i.e a game bird would be something like a pheasant)
Deer can be referred to as big game. Wolves aren't generally as it's not exactly a sport any more.

Humans have often associated wolves with death because during wars and the epidemics that accompaniedthem, wolves would feed on the corpses that were left unburied because there was no one healthy enough to bury them. That image of wolves feeding on the dead haunts people. It's not the wolves' fault...

i think to wrap up this slightly off topic thing is just to say they know what death is. They know the difference between a live and a dead animal. But who's to know how much further that goes? I for one, am not a wolf psychiatrist. (i bet i didn't spell that right)
