Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Cana has not locked this so I am jabbing in. Has it ever happened that by chance a cative wolf escaped? And if it did, would it be able to survive? Reply or not I don't mind! wolfsala- Although it is something we try to prevent, animals do escape in captivity. Whether they survive or not, depends o...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Thanks Jackie! One of the reasons I thought they regard their caretaker humans as part of the pack is because some wolves have been known to guard food from the humans, as if wanting to prevent the human from eating it. I believe this is uncommon, though. DarkOokami- if you think about this though,...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Hello Jackie , My question is; How good is a wolf's vision? I'm guessing it's quite bad as they have good senses like smell and ears but I just wanted to see what you think. :) GreatestAlly- there is always alot of interest in stuff like this, but I can't give you specifics like "they can see 12.5 ...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

A quick thing that popped into my head, hopefully it'll be okay. It's not what I had originally thought for this. ^^" It's probably considered a basic question... Out of curiosity; Compared to wolves in the wild, how long is a life span of a wolf in captivity? (I know there was a similar question, ...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Oh okay Cana! C: I did have a second question; Jackie, has there been any records or have you ever came across two siblings ever breeding before in captivity? I wasn't sure about this. Coventina- Yes, there have been cases of two females in captive packs producting litters. I really depends though ...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Hi Jackie, Do wolves who are in captivity see the humans that care for them, feed them, and perhaps socialize with them as part of their pack, or just as friendly food and grooming dispensers? Dark Ookami- This is a common thought, especially in some books and even something that has been stated in...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Oh okay Cana! C: I did have a second question; Jackie, has there been any records or have you ever came across two siblings ever breeding before in captivity? I wasn't sure about this. Coventina- This has happened, but is not very common. Again, it seems to depend more on the individual behavior an...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Ah thanks, it did answer my question. And we did put vitamins on their meat, and their meat had bones in it too (as in, a full deer leg), so I think we were doing okay. [= Thanks a bunch! No problem. In my first answer I sent (but it ended up in the black hole of the internet) I also mentioned the ...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Hi! I was wondering, do captive wolves truly bond with their keepers like dogs do? I've heard of close relationships, but is it a real 'I would do anything to be with you and never hurt you' situation? Thanks, eyheralde eyheralde- I know this is a common thought, and even a reason that some people ...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Dear Jackie, In a captive wolf pack, do multiple females give birth or is just one female that does? If it is the former, why do we not see multiple females giving birth in wild wolf packs? jaguartail- In the case of captivity, it can depend on which species you are talking about. If you are talkin...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Do wolves travel to the suburbs? I have had coyotes and foxes in my back yard and I am wondering if a wolf would be likely? Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Woo! My question - if I'm right in assuming that captive wolves are often a group of unrelated individuals (please correct me if I'm wrong), does this mean that there are more conflicts and displays of aggression in regards to breeding rights/dominance than a normal family pack? Atropine- you are a...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

I was wondering, how long does it take for a wolf to gain a mate in captivity? On many programms is says they search for zoo's all over the world, to find the perfect match. So do you normally have in already or have to import one, is my main question. Thank you for coming. I cant wait to see all y...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Oh yay! C: And welcome to the Wolfquest Forums Jackie! C: Well I was wondering why is it that Captive wolves live longer than wolves in the wild? Is it because they don't exactly have to face the difficulties that the wild wolf has to face? Coventina- You are exactly right, if the zoo or captive ce...

Re: Captive Wolf Live Q&A

Hi CLBaileyi!! Okay, so I've been wondering this for a long time. In captivity, is it okay to feed your wolves purely raw meat? Or would it be more beneficial to give them just a little bit of plant material, too? Canidae- Wolves need more than just plain meat to live a healthy life. They need a va...
