Re: Small Dogs May Have Evolved From Middle Eastern Grey Wolves

Yes but all dogs evolved from the Grey wolf. They're classified as subspecies of the wolf. If a certain dog had evolved from another animal, it would therein not be a dog, but something totally different. I suppose what the article is saying is that small dogs have a common ancestor and were not dev...

Re: Growing wolf numbers renew tension over animal

People just need to not let their pets roam about as they please, especially in Wolf Country! :) They need to wake up and realize who really is the problem. I suppose it's easier to say this when you don't live in that area. I think your remark is rather ignorant and arrogant. As the article said, ...

Re: Golden Eagle vs Wolf???

Golden Eagles are very large birds (with a wingspan of 7 feet), that would normally have no real reason to attack a wolf. In certain parts of the world, people train eagles to kill wolves as a bloodsport; it is often viewed as animal cruelty. The video I have seen of these acts were done with small ...

Re: Yearlings Leaving Pack??? (I'm really confused.)

Some of the youngsters, especially the males, leaves the pack when they are one year old, while other will remain with the pack for life.Wolves are ready to breed when they are about two years old. Yes,that is true. Incorrect; females are usually the ones to leave, not the males. Also, I believe it's...

Re: Hunting question

They more than likely would if they were at the point of starving. In my opinion, a wolf would have to be pretty sneaky to get around an entire herd of cows without going unnoticed, though. Perhaps to get food for pups as well if there aren't many food sources around, which is why the cattle ranch ...

Re: Mental Illnesses?

I would think that these sorts of thing would be very rare in the wild. Theoretically, anything that is detrimental to the wolf can severely hinder its chances for survival. If it doesn't survive long, it has little chance of passing down its genetics, therefore the illness would be bred out of that...

Re: What would happen if predator was friends with prey?

Because predators need to eat to survive. Evolution and diversity is the result of competition between predator and prey; they cannot live in some mutual perfect ideal world. They need to eat to survive, and predators can't sustain themselves on grass. Their stomachs are not made to break down gluco...

Re: What biomes do wolves live in?

The only biome I believe wolves don't live in is the Antarctic (south). Not to be confused with the Arctic(north) Wolves live on every content except Antarctica (thus the aforementioned) I'm not sure if wolves live in the deep south of South America, although I do know they live in Central South Ame...

Re: Wolves Blamed for "consuming" 22 year old

Wait a moment, we already have at least one documented case of healthy wolves attacking and killing humans. Why are people still reciting that phrase? Wolves have been killing and eating humans all throughout history. I don't see why this is any shock. And I don't understand why some people react wi...

Re: scared!!!

Firstly I do NOT reccemend that non pros approach wild or exotic animals. Leave it the pros...many people have a hard time coraling a cat never mind an exotic animal. Secondly, if their are animals such as wolves lving around your property you should keep pets inside and livestock secured in a safe...

Re: Why blue eyes?

Have you ever seen an animal in Japaneese Animae serously they make the eyes like bowling balls on a kitten. Win. Right there. That is the quote of the year, if only they used a spell check. Yellow eyes, all the way. I don't see the attraction to blue eyes. Humans have blue eyes. Why would you want...

Re: Do wolves HAVE to leave their birth pack?

No, some wolves usually stay behind to live with their family. Females are usually the ones to disperse, and before males, if I remember correctly. Wolves disperse around 2-2.5 years of age. Anything before that lowers their chance of survival. A yearling would have a very low survival rate if it di...
