Okami is a fictonal game, based on Japanese myths, legends and folklore. None of it happened in real life, because none of it could. Saying Okami is real is like saying you've seen Mario and Lugi walking down the road holding hands, skipping, and throwing roses. It won't happen.
Also, Link did more then just "save a girl", he did actually save the world of Hyrule. ^^

Kay from the Legend of Kay - some people found him and the voice acting for him annoying, but to be honest I didn't find it annoying at all, nor did I mind it. To me he was just an interesting and yet arrogant character, so watching him through the game just act like he was the best thing the world had ever seen was mildly entertaining. In a sense his reactions to situations gave the plot something interesting to it - because the plot was cliche and in my opinion wasn't that great of a plot.
