Before I ask, I need to clarify that this question is not because I'm upset or spiteful, I'm actually very curious.
If you look to the right you'll see some basic account information, my name, post numbers, forum status, etc. Today I was browsing the forum and I found side-by-side a post I had made, and a post somebody else made.
Under my information was: 93 posts, joined spring 2010, and I am ranked a Pup.
The other person's information: 15 posts, joined spring 2017, ranked Veteran.
It just kind of caught me off guard, in fact, I think it's hilarious! I was wondering, just how does the forum calculate ranks, dates and posts? Logically I feel like somebody joining 5 or 10 years before someone else would be considered more of a "veteran," not that the term has much meaning here anyway. Does anybody know why that kind of thing happens?

Re: Question about Veterans
Ranks may either be determined based on post count or by group membership. Groups that do not have a defined rank will inherit ranks based on predetermined post count ranks (these are Registered Users, Registered COPPA Users and Newly Registered Users) while those that do have a preset rank will instead define the group's own rank and ignore post-based ranks for as long as the usergroup remains your default. It's also possible to default to one usergroup for its colour and have the rank of another usergroup, though this is fairly uncommon and it is something that can only be performed (per request) manually by administrators or senior moderators.
In the example you provided, WQ Veteran is associated with Celebrating 10 years of WQ, a freely open group that anyone can join and set as their default to inherit its rank regardless of account age or how many posts they have made.
