What is FPS?

Hello, sorry to bother anyone but I have a small question:
In the game settings, you can choose to show FPS, and 30 and 60 FPS. When I click 'show' a tiny grey box shows up at the bottom left of the screen with numbers.
What are these things and what do they do?
Thank you!

FPS is an acronym for Frames Per Second. The numbers show how many frames are cycling through per second. The lower the number is, the slower/laggier the game is. The higher the number is, the faster the game is. Frames are single snapshots in an animation, and when they are put together, it shows movement, like what you see in the game or in animated shows, movies, etc.

For computers that have a harder time running the game, it’s best to have them run at a lower FPS to prevent too much lag from happening. Faster computers can take a higher FPS.

Oh! Okay. Thank you! Now I know if I need them or not. I'm glad I made this topic, because I had no clue as to what those were. And now I do! Thank you again!
