Why should you build a bat Box?

-bats eat insects
-bat populations are falling across north america
-some species pollunate flowers and trees
-their cool to watch

I tried finding one to buy (I know...I`m lazy) and I couldn`t so I found instructions to build one. I thought I`d post it up on here in case anyone else wanted to try it out....tell me how it goes!

also make sure the wood is chemical free....as we don`t want the bats to breathe in any chemicals or whatnot.

I built two bat boxes when I moved from Florida to TN. I highly recommend trying it out. You are providing a home for the bat, while keeping the insect population around your home at a minimum. Plus, they are cute little buggers! (^o^)

I plan to find one/build one and put some near my local Rec Center. Bats like to lurk around there, and once, a bat flew in and kept swooping down.
So I hope this might help :)

Interesting, when I went more to the south of Chile (Osorno actually) we had a lot of bats inside the house (between the walls) and in the barned, we needed to make a lot of this boxes (though someones really big) for making the bats go away, still they are there and you can hear them in the afternoon and before they start going out in search of insects moving through the house.

We do have bats in Finland, although I haven't seen a bat in a really long time (it must be several years now). A bat box sounds very interesting, bats are pretty cool animals. . . thanks for sharing this, pawnee!

I built a huuugee one way back when but when I was checking, there was a really tiny owl in there. <3
I have a few other smaller ones which have bats sometimes.

There are bats somewhat nearby, but they're all in a colony that my sleep-away camp watches over. They live in a barn. We got to see them flying out from the air vents (they are like 10-13 cm across!)
