I once read that the cheapest part of owning a horse is buying it! Which is true for the most part.
We tried adopting from a shelter but could not because our yard was not fenced in at that time. So we ended up doing the next beast thing. We bought a stray dog that someone had found and cared for. The dog had WAY to much energy for the family, so they had to find her a good new home, along we came and the rest is history.
With so many people leaving their pets behind and in shelters, the shelters around her do not accept pets unless the police bring them in. We learned this when we found a beagle mix next to a busy road.
