are you talking about the merged topic or the spay and neuter topic? The latter is not that old I believe....

oh I see what you mean. But considering its an ongoing disscussion that seems to be contributed every now and then woulnd't it make sense to leave it open then creating another one? thats my rational anyway.

I'm not sure if I can say so on the Forum.
It's when a veterinarian removes the reproductive organs of your animal, so they cannot breed. It helps the animal be calmer, and less stressed. :)

"Fix" is the general term for the surgery on both genders.
"Spay" is the correct term for that surgery in females.
"Neuter" is the correct term for the surgery in males.

I hope this cleared it up :)

my dogs are fixed. i think its good to have your dogs or any dogs for that matter fixed unless you plan on wanting puppies or being able to keep them if no one wants them. if we just never fixed dogs, they would be multiplying and their would be way more in the streets.

thats why pounds and shelters fix their dogs before letting them be adopted

I really wish people would consider fixing their pets when they first adopt them. I live in a neighbourhood where there are stray cats everywhere, because someone forgot to fix their cat. Now they just keep breeding and breeding, so there are a lot of cats running around. A lot of them end up getting killed by cars and other animals, T_T

i dont think its fair to ake away an animals right to do the one thing they are born to do... continue their genes onto the next generation, who know what evolutionary developments we could be stopping, its not fair on teh animals.

Animals know one thing and that , that they must reproduce to keep their spechies alive, i understand that we have plenty of dogs and cats around but that does mean we should take away their chances of carrying on their genes to the next generation. its not ethical.

It does seem wrong, yes. But think about it this way. Imagine that you have a cat that isn't fixed, and it's an outdoor one. It would find a tom and they would mate. The cat would have kits, and then you would have to find homes for them all. Which takes a very long time. After the kits are gone, the she-cat would probably go out and get pregnant again. My cousins cat does this, and they spend a lot of money on the kittens that they don't even want.

true that is a tough one, but when you get a pet you should be prepared for what ever happens... I have a she-cat and she went out and got pregnant and we looked after the kits simple and fuonds them new homes. yes it costs money but when you are thinking about getting a pet you should be prepared for that sort of thing.

Yeah, but most people get pets, thinking they are ready for them, and they're not. The local SPCA in my city is overrun with cats because of people not getting their cats fixed.
