Wolves on movies and tv shows

Post by Blightwolf » Tue Jun 30, 2009 8:54 am

In what movies and tv shows / programmes have you seen wolves featured on?

I just recently saw an episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien where animal expert / trainer Brandon McMillan showed a beautiful black Timber Wolf pup.

Also, in the movie Blood & Chocolate, featured real wolves in the werewolf sequences.

I think they used a wolfdog (or a Malamute) in White Fang, not a real wolf?

And wasn't the wolf in Dances with Wolves (Kevin Costner movie) real?

Wolf's Rain is anime; I'm trying to find out about "real" tv shows and movies that have wolves.

Thanks, pawnee!

I saw some sort of a Making Of document about The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. They interviewed the guy that provided the "base" wolves (so they could program the CGI wolves to portray Maugrim and the others). He was a wolfdog/Malamute farmer, he had lots of wolves/dogs that had been in movies and tv shows. ^^

Yes, Twilight the movie offers a small glimpse of wolves running in a forest... and I will have to mention the movie New Moon, sequel to Twilight. It will have CGI wolves in it.

I know about a norwegian wolf movie named ; Ulvesommer or in english Wolfsummer :)
It's about a girl who rescues a mother wolf and a pup, the other pups got eaten by a bear... Then there are some hunters who is trying to kill theese wolves, and the girl named Kim, starts a big adventure with the wolves :) A good movie actually, because she escapes from home and live with the wolves and eat sheeps, which the wolf mom puked up..

I'll put in a link where you can read about the movie (found an english site about it):

And here's a trailer I found in english:

╓──╖

You're in the forest.
It's dark, the moon light up the road.
You feel the grass
under your paws.
You smell like a dog, you
stop and look up to the
moon. You start howling..
You're a Wolf

Real wolves are not often used in movies and tv shows, I guess it's "safer" to work with wolfdog hybrids rather than real wolves. . . though on Blood and Chocolate, they were all real wolves because the director wanted.

I have seen lots of movies with wolves in the, though I don't know the names in english, but for what I remember, all the movies included "evil" wolves or monsters. I hate this posture the people takes about wolves. Wolves are rather shy creatures with no sense of fighting for blood or for human meat. All that nonsense that makes me explode.

I know, in a lot of movies wolves are portrayed as beasts that howl in the dark forest on a long winter night and wait for humans to come so they could eat them or something like this. e__e

Not only in real movies, but on some cartoons and animations also.

"The Big Bad Wolf" yes, that kind of posture has really affected humans in all ways since all the movies and stories they tell when you are a kid, talk about this evil wolf that will eat you if you do things wrong... etc.

Nothing else I could add by now.

Wolves have been feared and hunted for centuries, but humans are also fascinated by wolves. Only in the modern days you find those movies where wolves are viewed as "good creatures".
