Wolf shot in Dordogne, France

Post by Koa » Mon Nov 09, 2015 9:09 pm

A WOLF has been shot dead in a chicken run in Dordogne – with claims it may have killed two sheep.

Although still awaiting a post mortem and DNA tests, the Périgueux prosecutor has confirmed that the animal killed at Saint-Léon-sur-l'Isle, between Mussidan and Périgueux, looked like a wolf.

Certainly not the first act of livestock predation and won't be the last. An article I shared this summer about declining livestock numbers and the reaction to said decline should provide some more information.

Oh wow. Sounds like it was starving and I'm kinda sad it was shot but at least the man wasn't hurt.

Yeah it is sad, but the wolf had it sort of coming if it decided to go hunt some lifestock. Even if it was starving. I guess being a starving wolf that would be one of it's few chances to survive, but knowing humans will defend their lifestock we know this will sure happen.

Also, call me a noob, but I actually had no idea there were still wolves in France. I thought they had all died out there, hunted down by humans. Reading this I was like: ''Oh wow, I'm sooooo wrong.'' xD
I guess they came back or were never hunted down in the first place?

They colonised southern France from Italy over twenty years ago.
I cannot see that wolves are in any way nobler in character than hyenas- Frederick Selous
