Territory Marking

Post by WQ Project Coordinator » Wed Jul 09, 2008 12:24 pm

Yellowstone Wolves in the Wild by James Halfpenny
Incidentally, alpha wolves must ration their urine. If the wolf used all its urine at one spot, territory marking would take forever. Alpha wolves only use a little urine, sometimes even just drops, each time they mark. A large urine stain in the snow with wolf footprints on each side indicates a subordinate. When following trails during the winter, I have found that the wolves tend to scent mark about every 0.25 to 0.38 miles. Feces or scat can also be used to reinforce the territorial marking.
*Note: Dr. James Halfpenny uses the term alpha to indicate the pack leaders.

that is a lot of coffee to drink.an impossible task for any normal human being. Farley Mowat wrote in Never Cry Wolf that he once tried to mark an area around his tent. It took like fifteen cups of tea and about two hours to complete the job, and then a dominant male wolf just came and re-marked his borders. it took the wolf only two minutes!

book was excellent...based on real events yet not exactly played out as detailed (it was written when wolf bounties were in place and farley wanted to help wildlife).

I wouldn`t want to break the record XD I was also watching a documentary about a man who had a three or some captive wolf packs. He was attacked by the dominant wolf when he forgot to change his clothes after visiting another pack. I guess the wolf could scent the other pack on the man.

It morphs according to your fears,
And shapes itself into your dreams.
It is always to good to be true,
And still the only thing you want to believe.

no problem. happens to the best of us :)

we won`t be able to mark our territory on the game until a later version...lone wolves don`t advertise themselves to other packs!

If number 1 doesn't work, then number 2 is an option.

I have a question. When does the episode of WQ where you can mark territory come out? And will you be able to scent mark in multiplayer? :?: :?:
