Re: The Sight, by David Clement-Davies
I remember when I first read The Sight many years ago. The story was rather gripping, and sadly, filled with tragedy. I was rather suprised with the fact Fell hadn't died in the river, but alls well ends well..right? I guess not in this case. The ending did make me teary eyed as did the ending of Fell. I must agree with sgorr on several points. What pestered me was the fact that Fell's name (or nickname shall I say?) was being changed by every creature he happened to run into. He did also seem rather shallow at times.
Its a good series overall, one that I'll always love.

I loved The Sight and I have the sequel, "Fell", sitting next to me right now.

It was all right. It's been a while since I've read it (and I've read many books after ward) but it didn't leave much of an impression on me. There were a ridiculous amount of 'suddenly's in that book. 'Twas crazy. Found a post on another forum that sums up my thoughts nicely:
They were almost humans. They may not as well have been wolves the way they were written.
I'd always recommend books like White Fang and Watership Down before I ever even mentioned The Sight. Good, reasonable, with animals that may have been like humans at times, but you could tell the clear difference on every page.

Re: The Sight, by David Clement-Davies
I think he did that purposefully. Fell is supposed to be a mysterious, dark, troubled character. You're not supposed to know all of his motives. The author didn't go into why he did what he did and what were his motives behind everything
I also think he did that purposefully. Their are many reviews that state that in The Sight, the author describes every little thing, and that it slows up the story if you put too much detail, and I agree with those reviews. I loved The Sight, but I think there was WAY too much detail. Too much of a good thing, you know? I think the author picked up on that and decided to try to take the details down a a notch, which I think helped alot. The actual writing had declined
It's like the Wolfbane thing. Remember, in Fell, everyone thinks that he's evil and cursed, and so they don't want to use his name or otherwise they think that Fell will curse them or something. Also, Wolfbane was called the ShapeChanger and stuff like that; I think it's just an "evil things get tons of nicknames" thing. Besides, I personally think the "nicknames" are cool.Everyone starts calling Fell a bunch of nicknames like Lonetail and Darkpaw. It was really strange and I still don't know what the author was trying to acomplish with this

I gotta say, man, some of the nicknames reminded me too much of the Warriors series for me to take them seriously. ('-' )Besides, I personally think the "nicknames" are cool.

I didn't really like it. It was too dull, predictable. I like stories with complicated plots.

I couldn't really relate to any of the characters, myself. The unoriginal plot took a backseat to bad characterisation.rainNfire wrote:I didn't really like it. It was too dull, predictable. I like stories with complicated plots.

Re: The Sight, by David Clement-Davies
My thoughts exactly. XD Basically all the Warrior cats' names are two words put together- and that's what a lot of Fell's nicknames were like. It's unoriginal, and I found it annoying; why couldn't everyone just call him Fell?amaterasu231 wrote:I gotta say, man, some of the nicknames reminded me too much of the Warriors series for me to take them seriously. Re: The Sight, by David Clement-Davies
The Sight was okay, but after reading so many other books that I like a lot better, I can't say that it was one of my favorites.
The thing that really bothered me about it is how hung up the author tends to get on the details- I mean, sure, sometimes it's nice having detailed descriptions of things, but when most of the book is just describing stuff, I get bored. I prefer lots of action, dialogue, and thought.
