Hi, Ice!
Wolves are very intelligent and their ways of communication is extremely developed. Howling is just one of the many methods wolves use to keep contact with their pack mates, locate themselves and coordinate with each other.

Hope this helped. ^^
Say bye-bye to Stone!
That's right, I'm leaving. :/
Not forever, though~

Please read the Wolf Q&A posted at the top of this forum, it contains your answer:
25O. Why do wolves howl?

The howl of the wolf is one of nature's most evocative and powerful sounds. The haunting chorus of wolves howling is beautiful - or frightening depending on one's point of view. Wolves howl to communicate with one another. They locate members of their own pack by howling, and they often engage in a group howl before setting off to hunt. The howl is a clear warning to neighboring wolves to stay away.

Howling is the one form of communication used by wolves that is intended for long distance. A defensive howl is used to keep the pack together and strangers away, to stand their ground and protect young pups who cannot yet travel from danger, and protect kill sites. A social howl is used to locate one another, rally together and possibly just for fun.

Wolves are also known to howl for no apparent reason, probably just for the fun of it!

Wolves Howl to communicate with other Wolves in the Pack, or other Wolves, fighting of other Wolves by howling together to sound strong.
There are loads of reasons why Wolves Howl, most of it is to communicate. Rallying, is basically for fun!

The thing that i know is that wolves howl to let know each other that how alone they feel, they aren't if other wolves howl back. (lone wolves then)

Wolves howl for many different reasons. When they are spread out, pack members will howl to stay in touch with the rest of the group. Wolves also warn other wolves away with their howls. Sometimes they howl to celebrate as a pack a successful hunt, and sometimes they just do it ^^

Wolves howl to tell each other where they are. Howling is also another method of marking territory (you learn that is Slough Creek), and telling other wolves to stay away is pretty much the same.
As dawn turns to dusk, the wolves come out. They howl in the night, and wait for the morning to begin their journey.
