Are wolves normal to be seen in Maine?
I saw a wolf out in my back yard, and I live in Maine. Is this normal, or was it just passing through? Do wolves live in Canada??

Under "Conservation and Management:"

Yes, there are wolves in Canada.
Are you sure you saw a wolf and not an eastern coyote?

I'm pretty sure that it was a wolf; I've seen coyotes here and this one was way too bog to be a coyote. Also, it had mostly white fur with gray patches and I think the eyes were a greenish yellow in color. The only fur color for coyotes here is a variation of brown-orange..... Does this help any? I really would like to know what this was...

Re: Are wolves normal to be seen in Maine?
From what I can tell, there hasn't been any verified wolf sighting in Maine (http://www.wolf.org/wow/united-states/maine/, http://www.dirigomaine.com/2015/07/30/3 ... -in-maine/) for a long time. You could have seen a wolfdog or dog of some kind, as well. Given what I've read, I'd be hard pressed to believe it was a wolf, but I also wasn't the one who saw it, either.FocyThePirate wrote:I'm pretty sure that it was a wolf; I've seen coyotes here and this one was way too bog to be a coyote. Considering you saw it in your backyard, it doesn't sound like a wolf to me as I doubt a wolf would venture that close to humans. Perhaps it was a wolf-dog mix.
