Black Wolves

Post by wolflover1 » Tue Jul 29, 2008 5:53 pm

Ok, so I read in a book that that black jaguars/leopards may be more aggressive than the regular colored ones. I wonder if this is true for black wolves.

Maybe the gene for black fur also travels with a gene for increased aggression? I don't know wolf genetics. XP

I honestly don't know why it might affect its temperament (if it does), but I was just wondering.

here is a link that may help you understand

Lionkill is a strong wolf.
But his leader feared him and drove him from the pack.
In hopes that he will never come back.
But Lionkill, brave and true.
Knows something he will never do.
He'll never join another pack.
For now he is a wanderer.

This forum is for questions about real wolves, not one in the game played by humans.

To my knowledge, I have not come across anything in my readings or in my discussions with wolf experts that link coat color and level of aggression. This would be an interesting fact if true so I am almost positive that I would have heard it.

I've heard nothing about this with wolves.

However, several varieties of Spaniels (dog breed) have exhibited an unusual syndrome, in which solid colored dogs have a much, much higher tendency to be aggressive. Especially red/gold colored Spaniels.
Scientists have known for some time that there is a link between coat colour and temperament. This link is probably the colour pigment melanin, which is bio chemically similar to chemicals that act as transmitters in the brain. Cocker Spaniel behaviour has been studied in more detail than any other breed.

According to a study made by the University of Cambridge involving over 1,000 Cocker Spaniel households throughout Britain – concluded that solid colour Cockers were more likely to be aggressive in 12 out of 13 situations. Red/golden Cockers were shown to be the most aggressive of all, in situations involving strangers, family members, while being disciplined, and sometimes for no apparent reason

There is a black variety of grey squirrel coming into the UK which is apparently bigger and far more aggressive.
