What Demon said is probably true, depending on how big the tree was.

I can't see this actually happening in the wild, though...you'd think the wolf would be smart enough to run out of the way of the falling tree.

It's kinda hard to say for certain, because it's "What if-". I imagine it would vary from situation to situation? It's not like a heavily documented event >>

As Somgdog said...anything`s possible in a "what if..." type of question.

Out of all my wolf books I have...none say of anything similiar to your question MonkeyUncle...though some wolves have died in natrual disasers such as drowning, avalanche, forest fire etc.

o.O.Falling trees can crush cars, and kill people(i heard this thing quite alot at the news, its hard to believe that a stupid tree might kill you,but if you are at the wrong place at the wrong time,it can happen  ),so its kinda hard to believe that a wolf will survive.

I think monkeyuncle is asking if a tree fell and a wolf trying to avoid it didn't get fully away. Like if only a leg or two was trapped under the tree. If that is the case a few things could happen. The pack could try and still bring meals to the wolf. Another scenario would be the wolf gnawing the trapped limb off to escape or wiggling out. . Or it could simply be left to starve to death. I guess it really depends on the wolf, the season, the location, the size of the tree and of course the pack. I personally believe the pack would hang around for a while (the amount of time depending on how abundant game is) and if it's only something like a leg, paw or tail the wolf will do what it has to do get free. Even if it means loosing the use of the said area that is trapped. There are many cases of wolves surviving with a missing foot or limb when the us decided to exterminate them. Most of these wolves resorted to attacking cattle and sheep so there lives ended sooner then later but it was still longer then it would have been if they staid in their traps.
