Calling of the guns....Please help..updated

Post by wolves_forever » Fri Feb 01, 2008 11:10 am

The message below asks concerned Americans to oppose the Bush Administration's plan to allow the mass killing of wolves in Greater Yellowstone and across the Northern Rockies. You can help us mobilize a massive outcry against this senseless slaughter by forwarding the message to six of your friends, family members or colleagues.

The message below, urging concerned Americans to oppose the mass killing of gray wolves in Greater Yellowstone and across the Northern Rockies, was sent to you by

http://www.nrdcactionfund.org

Dear Friend,

The Bush Administration has just handed down its long-awaited "License to Kill" rule. It's the equivalent of a death sentence for hundreds of endangered gray wolves in Greater Yellowstone and across the Northern Rockies.

We can still force the White House to call off the guns -- before any shots are fired -- but we must move quickly.

Please ask your Representative to sign on to a letter drafted by Representative Nick Rahall of West Virginia that tells the administration to abandon its plan to strip of wolves of endangered species protection and leave them vulnerable to mass killing.

If this senseless plan moves forward, both Wyoming and Idaho are planning to use aerial gunning -- as well as baiting and trapping -- to exterminate hundreds of wolves. Taken together, their plans could drive northern Rocky Mountain gray wolves back to the brink of extinction.

In Idaho, the governor himself has boasted, "I'm prepared to bid for that first ticket to shoot a wolf myself."

Wyoming's plan classifies wolves as "predatory animals" in most of the state. As predators, wolves could be shot on sight anywhere by anyone at anytime.

The wolf's remarkable comeback from the brink of extinction in Greater Yellowstone is one of America's greatest environmental success stories. Don't let the Bush Administration destroy that success!

Send a message today urging your Representative to protect endangered wolves from mass killing:

Frances Beinecke

I live in Canada but I've still written letters and spread the word. Makes me sick.

Yet ANOTHER insanely stupid dacision from our esteemed leader. *rolls eyes* From breaking the Geniva Convention against every single recomendation of the military, to jumping unprepared into a war because of nonexstant evidence, he makes one terrible mistake after another. I don't wonder why you hate the bush adminastration, Blindseer.

I don't know why some people are so obsessed with keeping wolves endangered.

I guess it's because they either hate wolves or feel threatened by them

Certain ranchers feel that any wolves in the area are a dire threat to their livestock. I wish they were a little better informed, and not so quick to judge a beautiful animal.

Sometimes it isn't that the ranchers just hate wolves and are absolutely judgemental/ignorant/etc about them. There may be people who just can't afford to lose them. One of the things that I think some ranchers need to do is to find non-lethal ways to ward off wolves that may be a possible threat to their livestock.

I remember watching a show on National Geographic called A Man Among Wolves, and there was that one part where he did an experiment to see if playing pre-recorded wolf howls have any affect on the local wolves near a farm. If I remember right the farmer had no problems with the wolves ever since he tried out that method. That's not to say it'll definitely work every single time for every farmer. It needs to be researched a bit more, and I think that's what's going on currently.

you saw that show too? I think that is a worthy pirsuit, and I would also suggest that ranchers and farmers be reimbursed for lost livestock due to wolves.
