Wow thats quite a wandering wolf. Very surprising that a wolf would travel so far; especially into california. He is a very interesting wolf. Wonder why he decided to go so far.

Good to know. He wouldn't have been very successful if he had stayed in California. Thanks for the update!

I recently went to a lecture called Journey's Journey. They said that he has covered about 150 miles since entering California. They hope that a female might come down or that he goes back to Oregon and gets a mate and comes back. He has been recently hanging around northern California in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The California state government is working on passing laws to protect him and future wolves that enter the state.

OR-7 recently returned to Oregon (roughly a month ago); California's Department of Fish & Wildlife will not be posting anymore updates on his progress because he is now in Oregon and Oregon currently does not post updates on wolves.
That aside, I'm curiou -- where was this lecture, if you don't mind me asking? :)

It was at a REI in Irvine. A staff member from Wolf Haven was there talking about him. It was back in February.

I hope he and a mate travels back to California. I am unhappy that my state is wolfless.

FYI, OR-7's battery in his collar has finally died out. Attempts to capture him and replace the batteries so far have been unsuccessful.

Wow, I've never heard of this wolf until now. I guess that's because I live in a country far away from the creature. xD
Anyway, that wolf sure travels a lot. I've tried looking up information about it but I couldn't find much of it; does anyone know how old wolf OR-7 is by now? I'm not really sure for how long it has been traveling...

There is plenty of information in this thread. Check out the illustrated map I posted in April.
Also, in the article I just shared in early November, it says:
Now 6 years old, OR-7 left his pack when he was 2.
OR-7 is no longer traveling. He has settled down with has pack and has been settled for quite some time.

I had never heard about OR - 7 until now, I will read up on it later when I have the chance, it seems like an interesting topic.

He's been around for quite some time (and this thread was posted in 2012; there were actually other threads pertaining to him that were posted before then but we ended up creating a discussion thread for him because his topics were so common). I cannot believe that he is six years old already. I am very interested to see long he lives. He seems to be doing well, but as we all know, anything can happen.
