Cat City

Post by pawnee » Sat Oct 10, 2009 9:59 am

NOTE: I posted this in Wildlife because the majority is about feral cats-not pet cats. Therefore they lvie like wild animals. Please PM me of move this should you see fit.

Anyways I used to volunteer for a wildlife/cat shelter a while ago and I saw a documentary on Global television about it called Cat City. Its about the feral cat crisis in Canada and how the problem of unwanted animals, and feral colonies, gets ignored year after year by city council. Its kind of depressing but if your intrested in feral cats I highly reccemend it.

I don't live in Canada but feral cats are a problem all over. It's no secret that a lot live behind these apartments across the street I do believe they attempted to capture some a couple of years ago but they are still around thanks to people dumping their cats outside once they are "done" with them. There are many friendly cats and cat's with collars running around and it's so sad.

It's a shame that such and easy to prevent thing is such a problem :(

hmmm I guess your computer double posted? oh well it can happen sometimes.

well this documentary is based in canada but their are also feral cats in America too, as well as Europe and Australia. Though, few countries actually have a plan to deal with feral cats....and then some have wild cats breeding with feral cats like in Scotland.

lol yes I am Pawneewolf on youtube BTW.

It is very sad to see or hear about feral cats living on the streets, most of them probably used to have a home, or at least a few of them. It is hard to hear that people would just toss them aside when they don't want them anymore.

I always get a little sad whenever I see a cat roaming around by itself on the streets. I want to pat it, but I know that that might be a bad idea. O_O

Anyway, I do know that feral cats are considered a pest in Australia (which is where I live), but I can't help thinking; "It's not the cats fault, is it?" I mean, most people get pets just for the sake of it -which saddens me, because pets are meant to be a lifelong thing- and then "throw" them away when they don't want them anymore! And then the cats' fate rests in the cruel hand of the city and countryside, where they're most likely to get shot or run over.
So is it the cats fault? Well I certaintly don't think so. Sure, they might bother people, but it's like killing an innocent person. They didn't do anything wrong. :|
