Reptiles

Post by soloreclipse » Sat May 08, 2010 7:48 am

I was going through the topics on Wildlife and saw no topic on Reptiles! So, I decided to make one! 8)
You can talk about turtles, snakes, Gators, lizards, or any reptile you can think of!

Lol. I have a pet turtle named Swimmy (We sometimes call him Monet because he is a painted turtle or Turtley). He is a little baby painted turtle, about an inch long. We found him swimming in our pool! He is so cute.

Does anyone know what turtles eat. We gave him some bugs, and raw chicken, but he didn't eat it. :| We are going to get him turtle food. But the pet shop is closed on Sunday. Anyone know what to do?

Thanks. I'll feed him some and see if he eats it.
And yes, he is a juvenile turtle. His shell is about as big as a quarter.

There has been countless snake sightings at my house. I saw a rat snake and one coral snake. But we got rid of the coral as fast as we could, by calling animal control, and they took care of it. . . by letting it go somewhere else :|

Swimmy News:
We got swimmy the turtle food and he ate one of the food pellets. Now i have to collect all my money to buy a proper cage, rather than a hermit crab container.

Swimmy News:
Okay. I was worried because swimmy wasn't eating his turtle food and was sitting inside his log for a day. I kept putting the turtle food in and he wouldn't eat it! Then i got all soggy and i had to take them out.
So, i thought he was going to starve if he kept up with this no eating thing. So, he came out of his log and started swimming around.
I took a chance and put some food in. He started eating!!! :D I'm happy to see he's starting to eat. He's a good turtle. LOL I didn't want him to starve.

Now i have to get something called a UVB light. What is that?
I have 100 something dollars for turtle supplies. And i am hoping to go to the store tomorrow, day after tops.
---------------------------------------------
Swimmy is sooo cute in his log! It is a circle of wood and straw with a bunch of holes cut in it. He goes inside and sticks his head out of the different holes and looks around! :P He is adorable.

UVB rays create vitamin D3 to help properly metabolize calcium for most herps; which prevents turtles from getting soft shells, or more commonly in other reptiles (lizards), metabolic bone disease. So, a UVB light is essential for the health and happiness of your herp. :]

Yay, for reptiles! I'm quite a fan and a hobbyist when it comes to herps.

Fwee, I like most reptiles. Brightcoloured frogs, tadpoles, turtles...

Me and my family once got this nearly-dried out toad back to the water. It was meters away from its pond, completely dry and didn't move - we put it back in the pond and kept splashing water over it till it swam away :3

Some of you may have already seen this, but this is my big bud, Axel; he's a bearded dragon:

We often put him in the tub to soak to help with shedding. :]
