Mel & Sydney - Live Barn Owl Cam

Post by Kivia » Fri Sep 17, 2010 3:26 pm

Molly the Owl isn't going to be broadcasted in 2011, but there's another barn owl couple taking their place this year: Mel and Sydney! This owl box is also located in California, just like Molly and McGee. Here's a link to the two current webcams:
Box Cam:

Outside Cam:

.....and here they are without the chat and such:

I'll continue to update the first post since this is just the beginning of M&S's first clutch.

M&S News
2/14/2011- Though everyone was wishing for a Valentine's chick, there wasn't one today. But there's a good chance of the first egg hatching within the next few days!
Also around 7:30pm PST, an intruder (who has actually frequently visited the box over the last few days) made an appearance:

There is also a video of Sydney fending off Intruder early late last night as well:

2/16/2010- There is a definite piping hole in one of the eggs, and chirps can be heard; the first chick should come very soon!
http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab29 ... 1Crack.png
EDIT: Little Matilda has hatched!
http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab29 ... atches.png

2/20/2010- Woot, I dropped the ball, didn't I? xD Well two more chicks have hatched; Dundee hatched on the 18th, and Bindi hatched on the 19th! Still three more eggs though ;D

3/21/2010- Wow, one month since my last update. xD Well all of the egss have hatched; Joey hatched on 2/21, Barbie on 2/24, and the little baby Dinky on 2/25. They've grown up a lot though in the past month!

Other Barn Owl Cams
Want to see what's up with other barn owls besides M&S? Here's a few more I found:

The Barn Owl Trust
Located in the UK, this box has begun to have a few sightings of owls visiting; keep a look out for them! The site also has a lot of interesting information on barn owls.

Fluffy and Buddy
These two are in Escondido, California; currently there are 7 eggs.

You're welcome everyone; haha, I've been watching since the owlets were still eggs. There were actually originally 4 eggs in this clutch, but two died sadly.
Seems like Molly doesn't come around a lot anymore now that the chicks are maturing, just to drop off some food; that's alright though, because the chicks are entertaining =D

This is so neat! They're currently sleeping, and although that's not very exciting in general, it's just interesting to know.

I just checked back on the cameras, and it is amazing to see such a drastic change in the appearance of the owlets in the space of a mere week - the adult feathers are beginning to show now :3
