I have one or two facts which I have picked up from time to time, one or two which I've heard of quite recently:
  • All clams start out as a male, and at some point in a clam's lifetime, some decide to become females.
  • Horned lizards can shoot blood from their eyes.
  • Camels have three eyelids, this is so they can protect themselves from sand blowing around.
  • A Catfish has up to 100,000 taste buds.
  • A rat can actually last longer without water than a Camel.

The shark is the only fish that can blink with both eyes.

A cat has 32 muscles in each ear.

Bats always turn left when exiting a cave.

A group of crows is called a murder.

A murder, really? XD I always thought it was a herd of cows. Weird...

And a group of rabbits is called a "hutch"

Apparently a lot of ducks when in the air are called "flocks" but when they're on land they're called "herds". I'm not entirely sure this is true, I heard it from one place but it seems so odd to me I can't even bring myself to believe it..

I think its because crows are universally a sign of death. You always see them at carcasses and in scary stories, so that would explain that.

A group of cats is called a clowder or a pounce.

A group of ferrets is called a business.

A group of hyenas is called a cackle ( ironic, right? )

I've heard many theories about this one, I think, in my opinion it is either cackle or clan. It might be clan because hyenas are more closely related to cats than dogs, and even though hyenas may look like dogs, they are not. ;D

Wow, clams start out as males? That's the most outrageous thing I've ever heard. That's funny and cool, I wonder and they decide to become a female?

Fire ants clump together and make a net-like structure when trying to cross water of any sort, whether it be jungle streams to jungle ponds. After they've created an ant-made raft with themselves, the queen ant sits atop the raft and the ants half swim, half float as they allow the water to carry them across. Some unlucky fire ants near the edges of the raft are eaten by fish who snitch a bite whenever they can. If ants are seperated or fall off, they quickly link arms again. These things seem indesctructable. As we watched this man try to sink the fire ants and terribly failing one girl said in my class "I bet these things can take over the world." XD...right. They usually cross water and such when they are looking for a new nest if their old one has been demolished or they need a new one for food sources or wahtever. In any case, pretty amazing....and scary....

Mockingbirds can imitate sounds of other birds.
To add onto this one, Mockingbirds can pretty much imitate anything, ranging from human voices, sirens, barking, cricket chirps, splashing, and so on.

I know a lot of facts about African Wild Dogs since I researched them and worked with a story I based off of the realism for 3 years of my life and published just last year.

African wild dogs have an odd social group. If the leaders both die in a pack then the females and males split off and head in different directions as groups. Rather sexist isn't it? XD lol

African Wild Dogs rip the bowels out of their prey first when hunting, this is because they can't reach the throat of the bigger animals. They also eat the animal alive. THis sounds cruel, but scientists have confirmed that the animal dies quicker than if it were to suffocate. But I've seen it happen lots and to me..well that doesn't really prove true to my eyes ...

Only the leaders can have pups. If any other member has pups the leaders will kill them.

the dominant pair are called "Leaders". Yep, simple as that.

But the question is, how do they decide who is leader? The youngest pup of the dominant litter actually rises up to take the place of Leader.

African Wild Dog's main dangers are loss of habitat and disease. Besides so, they have no natural preditors. Though hyenas are often a competition and quite often the same with lions.

African Wild Dogs pupsit each other's pups. When the dominant pair go out to hunt, the rest of the pack takes care of the pups.

The oddest thing of all, totally opposite to wolves. After a hunt, the pups get to eat first!

Polar bears' livers are extremely poisonous as they contain too much of Vitamin C.

Pandas should be eating meat: they're digestive system is that of a carnivore and not of a herbivore.

If a drop of liquor is put on a scorpion, it will sting itself to death.
One raindrop among millions.
