Sand Cats

Post by valkea » Wed Feb 01, 2012 12:24 pm

Don't think there's a topic on these yet, not surprising though as I don't think many people have really heard of sand cats, and there isn't much known about them. ANYWAY.
The sand cat (Felis margarita), also referred to as the "sand dune cat", is a small cat distributed over African and Asian deserts. (The name "desert cat" is reserved for Felis silvestris lybica, the African wildcat.) The sand cat lives in arid areas that are too hot and dry even for the African Wildcat: the Sahara, the Arabian Desert, and the deserts of Iran and Pakistan.
Victor Loche was the first European to describe the sand cat for science (in 1858). He named the species Felis margarita after Jean Auguste Margueritte, the leader of the expedition during which he had encountered the animal.

So, anyone else fall in love with them? So cute <3

I've actually heard of sand cats. I think they're absolutely adorable, especially the kittens. =D I remember role-playing one a while back. Their ability to adapt to such dry climates is extraordinary.

I've heard of sand cats. They are adorable and I love their faces. I will look at a picture of a baby sand cat because I heard that they were adorabler than adults (from Tita).
EDIT: I just looked at a sand cat picture! And they're for SALE! That is so adorable!
