Cougars return to Ontario, study says

Post by Mr Wolf25 » Sun Mar 18, 2012 1:48 pm

The Big Cat has returned to Canada after a century of absence.
OTTAWA — A four-year Ontario study confirms what many rural residents felt sure about: cougars are again living wild in Ontario.

Officially, the big cats were considered to have been wiped out by the early 1900s all across Eastern Canada. But a major research effort has documented tracks, fur, photos, DNA, scat (droppings) and hundreds of sightings — some of them by trained biologists.

Woo, I'm glad to hear cougars are back. ^^
I've always been wondering if the cougar population in Ontario was high enough that I would perhaps be able to see one if I went to one of the provincial parks. Hopefully their populations will continue to climb. ^^
Thanks for sharing Mr. Wolf25!

Hurray! Although I do not live anywhere near Ontario, it's great to hear that their population is once again increasing over there. ^^
As for what Alpha Female said - well, that would be very interesting to see one in it's natural habitat. The only time I have caught a glimpse of a Cougar was at the zoo, and that was only for a short period of time before it snuck away. Sneaky creatures. :3

Anyhow, thanks for posting this Mr Wolf25. Although short, this was an interesting read to me.
Moving accounts to Crupi. See you there.

Hehe, I live in Europe and am still glad to read things like this. It's always good to know that species are able to recover and resettle. :)

Wow, that's good! My dad sometimes takes business trips up to Canada; I'll have to tell him to watch for cougars. Thanks for sharing!
