Update Intel 865G drivers if you have rendering problems

Post by WileE » Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:11 am

We have confirmation that at least some of the strange rendering issues some users are seeing are caused by a bug in an older driver for Intel 865G integrated graphics.

We are not entirely sure that this is the cause of the "gray screen of doom," but it may be the cause of a blank screen at startup.

If you are having rendering issues on Windows, do this:

1. Find the WolfQuest folder and open the Data/output_log.txt file. At the top, it will say what your graphic card is. Look for this line:
Renderer: Intel(R) 82865G Graphics Controller

If you have problems and a different graphic chip, this won't help you.

2. Now look for the driver version (the number may not be the same as this):
Version: Direct3D 9.0c [ialmrnt5.dll 6.14.10.3619]
If your driver version number is lower than 14.17 then you should try to update your driver.

3. If you need to update your driver, go to this page from Intel to choose your OS version and download and install it.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product ... uctID=1044
Sorry, but we cannot provide assistance with updating the driver.

4. Post to the poll and/or a reply to this message to let us know if it helped at all.

Thanks,
Steve

Great to know you found something that could help for at least some people ^^
I'm not using a laptop, and thus don't have a Intel card, but I hope someone will experience a game that suddenly works :)

You're not paranoid. You know you aren't. At least you weren't, until they started coming after you.

This is part of a motherboard chipset used on a lot of Pentium D and Pentium 4 desktop systems as well. Intel has had the very annoying (for gamers) strategy of saving money by shipping chipsets with high-powered CPUs and crippled graphics in terms of 3D performance. That works fine for churning along with MS Office or even Web browsing. But it causes a lot of trouble for gaming because people think they have a new, even "fast" computer, but the graphics card is not fast at all.

I have an older (5 years old) computer with a Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller

am I able to update to the 82865 driver?
