Elk Hunt performance increased v 1.5.3 April 29, 2008

Post by WileE » Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:19 pm

OK, so we lied when we said no more updates. Because there were so many concerns about low framerates when hunting elk, we realized we needed to do something about it!

So if you want a snappier hunt, get the update from the Get the Game->Downloads page.

The installer package should now allow you to install on just about any 64 bit version of Windows as well.

Players with any version of 1.5 can play together, so this is not a mandatory update if you have limited bandwidth.

Hey, this is nice! I haven't killed an elk yet, but my mate and I had a bull walking backwards for about 20 minutes in circles... Does he ever run? The bears and the whole game run much more smoothly, though it seems to slow down after about 10 minutes of gameplay, but still, a wonderful improvement :)

I have downloaded the newest version, elk hunting is still slow only at about 3.00 frames per second. This was on Single Player with a mate, on fastest setting, the trees at 100 and the grass at 0 any help?

lower the settings on the trees and try setting your screen resolution to 600x800 when you start the game.

That is what I have been doing. The grass and trees will go no lower.

Here I will try it again and show every thing that I think might matter:
Terrain & tree grow distance: 100 M (as low as it will go)
Grass Draw Distance: 0 M (as low as it will go)
Music Volume: Off
Wolf steering sensitivity: Fast (as high as it will go)
Only show framerate checked.
I have a mate.
My screen resolution is 800*600
Some Random frames when hunting are: 3.19 3.00 (a lot) 3.80 and the highest ever hunting 4.00.

What is your frame rate when you are not hunting, in a game without a mate, say running from the spawn point? If it is less than 20 or so then, you will always loose frame rate when you have all the other animals active.

What CPU/graphics card to you have? How much RAM? It sounds like your computer just may not be up for the game.

My frame rate at the spawning point, is just about 20. Randomly going to 30, and slowing down to a low at about 17.

Ram: 1.00 GB
I don't know where to look to see what graphic(s) I have... If I find out I will be sure to update this post!

Yes, I see no difference in the framerate I get when hunting elk, it goes down to about 4 or 3...

Somehow I didn't say that right -- if you start with a frame rate of 20, then it's not surprising it will go down to 3-4 when the herd starts up.

It sounds like you have integrated graphics that are not really up to 3D games.

We are looking into seeing what can be done to further optimize the game, but it will never run fast on low-end integrated graphics. Those cards just aren't designed for it.
