New Version: Pricing

Post by loboLoco » Fri Feb 06, 2015 3:59 pm

For latest info on pricing, please see the FAQs: http://www.wolfquest.org/bb/viewforum.php?f=81

We've got a rough plan for pricing. Specifics may change, but I expect the general outline to remain the same:

The game will be free to download, with Amethyst (Episode 1) free to play in single-player mode.

Other episodes, modes, and customizations will be available for purchase:
  • Slough Creek (single-player)
    Multiplayer (Amethyst and Slough Creek)
    New multiplayer map
Customization packs (wolf fur colors and other cool variations)
Most of those purchases will be $1-$3, though a few very special customizations will likely cost more.

While I am not personally a huge fan of In-App-Purchases, I've come to accept the fact that this is how mobile games work nowadays. But this strategy does have a few distinct advantages for players:
  • If you have an older device and the game doesn't run great on it, you'll find out before spending any money.
People who aren't interested in multiplayer don't have to pay for it.
]People who don't care about customizations don't have to pay for it -- and those customizations will be rarer for those who do want to purchase them.
If we are able to eventually develop a whole new episode, it'll be easy to add it to the game as a new IAP.
We haven't decided on specific prices yet, but I expect they'll be in the ranges mentioned above.

$1-$3 each? I probably wouldn't buy multiplayer but I guess that's reasonable. I'd probably still buy the new episodes and customizations, though.

That pricing sounds more than fair. It's also great how you've separated the items, I myself might not purchase certain expansions, and that'll be nice to have options.

While I'm sure you've been asked this dozens of time, how soon before a release date is announced do you think?

Neat idea... I'll likely purchase most of those for the sake of supporting the project once this goes live on Android- I'd just have to hope my (Asus) Nexus 7 can handle them. x3

The current estimate could be from any time between April and June, depending on the app's progress.

Sounds great! I like the options to buy certain expansions, though I'll probably end up purchasing them all. (:

What is the estimated price for all the episodes? Six dollars perhaps? I might be willing to spend seven dollars on the whole kaboodle (with a dollar for customization).

Lets hope you get enough money for bigger plans :3

Similar to what DuskyPack said, it would be cool to have an option to buy the whole thing like a bundle for like $5-7 for those who want everything but don't want to constantly have to go to the app store to purchase a new feature...

I, too, frown upon in-app purchases, but this seems to be the 'trend' of mobile games, as the first post stated. The prices of the in-app purchases, however, are pretty cheap for a mobile game. I also have full support on the 'Full Expansion' pack, in which you can get all of the in-app purchases for $5-$7.

Will you make us pay for fur colors that are already in the computer version? It is one thing to price your versions to get more money with your new features, but it is another taking free things that improve the whole experience and make them cost money. I wouldn't mind extra fur colors that aren't in the PC version costing money, though.

I'm honestly never really too thrilled about in-app purchases in general. I think it would work nicely for WQ, though.

Some features, perhaps. Providing it doesn't turn into buy-everything-to-have-funquest.
